Creating Destiny: Episode 3

October 22, 2009

Hmm… It’s only episode 3 but I’m already getting a little bored? How many more episodes of various couples giving each other nasty/surprised looks will we need to see? I saw a glimmer of hope in the episode 4 preview so I’m really hoping that things will progress very soon. Because I may not be able to take too much more, no matter how much I find Yeo Joon to be hot.

Sang Eun confronts the 2 men at the airport and greets them in English. When Yeo Joon asks her to speak Korean, she complies. But not without a comment, “You seem like the kind of guy that dad would choose. Asking for Korean even before a hello.” She also lets on that she overhead their conversation at the cafe, referring to herself as an airhead who can’t find a husband.

The 2 bicker constantly all the way home. Yeo Joon even drives her to a different location to argue more. When they come back his house, Sang Eun doesn’t get out of the car until Yeo Joon opens the door for him. That’s right Sang Eung. Keep him exasperated! She also yells at him when she figures out that they already come home, and then left again to argue – calling Yeo Joon ridiculous.

Sang Eun and Yeo Joon finally get home to greet the adults of the family. Sang Eun proves to be a good little daughter and gives a big bow (wedding-style) to Yeo Joon’s parents and grandmother, except that she stumbles a bit with her short skirt.

But Yeo Joon’s grandmother and father are smitten with their soon to be daughter-in-law, Sang Eun. They think she’s the best thing since sliced bread and start talking about a wedding date. Sang Eun and Yeo Joon are not happy with the conversation but can’t get in a word. Sang Eun is also surprisingly polite and doesn’t do very much to quell the crazy situation. (I can understand. I’m usually loud and opinionated, but get pretty quiet around my in-laws. It’s hard to remove my subconscious desire to be a docile Korean daughter-in-law.)

Yeo Joon takes her to the guest room next to him, and Sang Eun is curious to know why Yeo Joon got so upset about the term “hap-bang”. He initially tells her to ask grandmother, but mockingly asks her if she want to have “hap-bang” since the adults want it so much, telling her that it means 2 people sharing a bed. (Am I watching a scene out of Goong/Princess Hours?) Did anyone else notice the matching bedding and curtains in Yeo Joon and Sang Eun’s rooms? It’s like they’re already a couple.

Meanwhile, Grandmother Jeong has a flashback of Sang Eun as a child. It looks like Sang Eun was close with the grandmother, being neighbors, and Sang Eun had given her comfort at her husband’s funeral. No wonder Grandma has a soft spot for her.

Sang Eun and Yeo Joon both find themselves outside and get into yet another argument, over what? The same stuff. They did throw in a little twist with the use of language – honorific vs familiar. Apparently, Yeo Joon is 6 years older than Sang Eun and has decided to use ban-mal/familiar tone with her. Sang Eun does not like it, and threatens that she can also speak to him in that tone as well. Because they are yelling in the front yard, the whole family can basically hear their conversation. The parents and grandmother, tell them to go to bed, separately, and remind them that they have a lifetime to converse once they get married.

At the request of the adults, Yeo Joon is forced to take Sang Eun out for a tour of the city. They pretend to go along with the request, fully planning on separating once they leave the house. Sang Eun roams the city herself, taking in the sights. And Yeo Joon plays a little racquetball and has lunch with his friend, Gyu Han.

Meanwhile, Grandmother Jeong and Yeo Joon’s sister Yoon Hee are out preparing for the wedding when they see Sang Eun walking around Insadong by herself. Grandmother is furious, and they go back home to deal with the situation.

Her whole family sits with the her. (Who’s taking care of the dduk store??) Yoon Hee calls Yeo Joon to no avail. And when Grandmother tells them to call Gyu Han, Yoon Hee is relieved that she doesn’t have his phone number. But Jin Ju (cutie) raises her hand and announces that she knows his number.

Yeo Joon is trying to have a normal day, when he gets the call from Grandmother. He has to lie that she’s in the bathroom, and runs out of the restaurant, to look for Sang Eun.

Sang Eun is having a good ole time, seeing a Korea that she hasn’t seen since childhood. She walks around snapping photos and taking in the sights, when…

… she walks right into a car.

Serendipitously, she runs into Se Won and Hae Sung (Kang brothers) from the airport. Se Won is quite the gentlemen, even after getting hit by Sang Eun at their previous meeting. They drive her back and Se Won seems quite intrigued by her and gives her his card, using the accident as an excuse.

When they get back to the neighborhood, Yoon Hee is out waiting for Sang Eun. And we have a meeting of our ex-lovers: Yoon Hee and Hae Sung. Yoon Hee is not at all happy to see him, and she gives the impression that she’s with Gyu Han. Do you think he’s Jin Ju’s dad? I think so.

Episode 3 was pretty much a yawn – predictable storyline and dialogue – with way too much nonsensical bickering. My favorite scenes are with Jin Ju, for goodness sakes. Wouldn’t she make a cute couple with Kang Soo Min (Wang Suk Hyun) from My Fair Lady?

Hi, dw4p!! My first post in your awesome blog!
Thanks for the awesome recaps for Creating Destiny!
Im not a fan of the actress playing Jin Ju. LOL. I was expecting Byul to act on that part.. haha. (If ever you watched Speed Scandal, she was with Wang Suk Hyun, playing as her play-date! γ…‹γ…‹)
Need to continue to enjoy your recaps and post as much as I can.

haha.. dw4p, is my addiction for Lee Byul and Job Well Done still showing up? lol.
Those kids are lucky.. They’re cute and they can avoid the harsh critics from netizens. Not like the old artists. lol. Their cuteness or looks does not hide the fact that they are bad in acting. haha. πŸ˜€
