1n2d: RV Extravaganza (Part -ee-)

November 16, 2009

What a pretty picture… It makes me want to take a stroll and breathe in the fresh air.

So the episode was a little flat for me… It had its moments but was less than the usual high quality entertainment that 1n2d provides. It’s not such a big deal. I don’t expect anyone to hit a homerun at every at bat. Sometimes, you have to bunt and even strikeout. I haven’t watched this past Sunday’s episode yet, but hope to watch and provide a recap in the next couple of days.

Jang Ki ha and the Faces: LET’S WALK SLOWLY [느리게 걷자] (Download)

Welcome back to Jeju Island! Last we left off, Kim C had lost the “noon-chi” game and won the honor of walking to the base camp (wherever that will be.) The other 5 members decide to turn around and go to a different location, which makes Kim C backtrack. Poor guy!

Once the RV team arrive at their locale by the beach, Ho Dong immediately says “rock, paper, scissors,” with the loser doing what? A dunk, of course. Befitting the situation, Ho Dong loses the game.

Unfortunately, for Seung Gi, he’s standing way too close the edge, and gets pushed in by Ho Dong and Su Geun. He even fibs that he didn’t bring any extra clothes, but we are all the wiser. He gets pushed in without an afterthought, and Ho Dong and Su Geum immediately run away.

Meanwhile, the hike team walks back, and run into the same folks that they recently passed. Our “new” PD comments that he shouldn’t have brought his backpack, and Kim C immediately says that he’ll carry it for him. They get into the a little tiff, the kind that people get into at the restaurant to pay the check. And ultimately, Kim C wins out. But our PD isn’t to happy about it, commenting, “I’m never going to get married. Give it back…” Hee-hee…

The men are still focused on dunking each other into the water. The truly funny moment of the episode is when the 5 men get into a standstill, each holding onto one another. LSGi’s the one who starts the fight, by trying to push in Ho Dong. But Ho Dong wasn’t a national wrestling champion for nothing and has a pretty awesome center of gravity. A little shove isn’t going to work, Seung Gi! KHD then holds onto LSGi and telling him to give his cellphone to someone else. Haha – atleast he has the sense to not throw the phone in the water. KHD calls upon the water gods for a good 2010, offering LSGi as a sacrifice.

LSGi basically throws himself into the water. At that point, Mong almost falls in, but grabs onto Ho Dong yelling, “I’m not going down by myself!” They all start worrying about their cellphones, and try to pass them over to PD Na, but somehow end up in Ji Won’s hands. Eventually LSGn pulls on EJW’s shirt to join them and PD Na runs over to take the cellphones.

They end up at a standstill, realizing that it’s everyone for themselves. They all tell themselves, “You can’t trust anyone” and “If I go in, you ALL go in.”

Trying to keep from being pushed into the water, KHD’s unable to keep this pants on. (He had taken off his belt earlier for some reason.) While Mongi is holding onto KHD’s pants, it starts slipping off without his notice. Puhahaha! KHD jumps into the water, to keep his butt crack hidden. Ultimately, their final destination is achieved and all fall into the water.

After coming out of the water, Ho Dong gets into a rock-paper-scissors tourney with the mook-jji-bba expert camera PD. They play a game of mook-jji-bba and Ho Dong ends up losing, forcing him to sleep outside in the evening. (Look at the PD. He’s so cute!!!)

Kim C has gotten hungry from the long hike, and stops by a clementine field to work for some citrus. He gives feed to the cows, and gets a taste of the clementines. Kim C is a big fan, and gives a pretty exaggerated reaction upon getting a taste. (Well, exaggerated expression for Kim C.) He’s happy with the outcome, and decides to start walking again.

The RV members realize that they can’t stay in their current location because the park isn’t RV compatible. They decide to change courses again and head back to where they had the opening. When Kim C gets the call about the change, he is unhappy to say the least… (And isn’t Seung Gi’s socks adorable? That’s the only reason why I added in that screencap… haha)

As usual, Kim C is a good sport and heads out without complaint, carrying a huge bag of clementines for the members. (Such a mom!) The 3 members of the hike team even take a picture together to commemorate the trip. Because the RV team decides to drive back to the area of the opening scene, they pick up Kim C along the way. And the 6 members finally unite. Good job Kim C!

At the new campsite, they start cooking dinner. Resident chef MC Mong makes ggo-choo-jjang jji-keh (red pepper paste soup) and huh-dang Seung Gi start making his beer can chicken. But SGi, as expected, runs into problems from the beginning. Watching him start the marination, the PD asks, “don’t you need to wash it first?” LSGi realizes that he’s missed the step but replies, “It’s OK. It’ll get hot enough.”

Then he decides to wrap the chicken with saran wrap to help the chicken marinate. Yikes! The other members are totally disturbed and look on with a disapproving glare. You know it’s bad when Kim C gets upset.

Seung Gi decides to follow their advice (more like threats) and remove the wrap. Unfortunately for him, Ji Won discovers that SGi was just resting the the chicken on the beer can, instead of sticking the can into its orifice like the diagram. Eventually, SGi takes the chicken off the can and just grills the thing, so that it can be ready for dinner.

For the dinner bok-bul-bok, the members are offered a set of skewers (like the shrimp pictured above), if they’re able to put together the mess kit within 30 seconds. SGi is selected for the challenge, but he doesn’t even get close to completing the kit.

KHD then has the other members try the mess kit. If they can’t complete it within 30 seconds, they are forced to sleep outside with KHD. There are a few funny moments, as they try to sabotage each other’s chances, like when KHD and EJW try to push the little plastic plates into each other as hard as possible.

After the end of the lost bok-bul-bok game, they have dinner. (Hmm… the game didn’t mean much because they already had a table food of food, no?) MCM’s jji-kye is a winner and they move onto LSGi’s beer can chicken. What’s the verdict you ask? It’s a hit! Firework ensues.

The morning bok-bul-bok is a redux of the evening with the mess sets. LSGi is the first up in the morning but selects one of the harder sets. LSGn wins handily, picking the simplest kit, with Kim C and MCM taking the other 2 top spots. The 3 enjoy a nice simple “American-style” breakfast.

The members complete their mission by driving route 1112 and end up at a field of eulalia grass. It’s actually very pretty with the gold hues. They end their trip by heading to the ocean and inviting everyone to come to Jeju Island!

Thanks for the recap! I love the screen cap of Seung Gi’s socks, since they are the only thing that he is wearing that actually matches his age. He has been in way too many sweater vest / Grandpa jackets lately.

Not washing the chicken was so gross. I can’t believe the chicken turned out well. *shudder*

Hee! Thanks for recapping! The best moment in this episode, for me, is Kim C. Admittedly, Kim C isn’t always being highlighted. He’s the member that tends to stay in the background, not because he’s doing nothing, but simply cause he’s just quietly doing all the work. So, it was really great to see more of Kim C by himself.
