1n2d: Night Owl Tour & Manager Special (Part -ee-)

November 27, 2009

Telephone charades!!! I totally love this game because of MC Mong.  Even the mention of it makes me roll on the floor with laughter.  And the added bonus of the managers made the bedtime bok-bul-bok the best part of the episode.

As nice it was to see the men actually learn something, the planetarium trip didn’t translate very well on television.  The guys tried to do all they can to give as much exaggeration as possible, but watching people look through a telescope isn’t that exciting.  With that said, even a slightly boring segment of 1n2d is pretty fun and I enjoyed the episode immensely.

Hachi & TJ: STUDDED STARS [별총총]
(Song was playing at the planetarium. Love Hachi & TJ!)

With the results of the dinner bok-bul-bok in place, the OB team enjoys their well earned meal. At the traditional Korean restaurant, Ho Dong puts on the yang-ban [gentleman] hat and transforms himself into Nolbu (a mean and fat older brother from a Korean folktale.) LOL.

Meanwhile, Ji Won believes to have the OB’s money bag, and the YB team runs off trying to speed off with lost money. Unfortunately for them, Su Geun reveals their winnings and we find out that EJW picked up a staff’s envelope. They return to the restaurant, defeated.

Finding out that they are at the filming location for Radiostar (from The Great Lee Jun Ik), they head over to the planetarium for some grade school astronomy. I won’t go into too much details of their star gazing, mostly because we can’t fully enjoy what they’re looking at, but it’s fun to see their reactions.

On a side note, there are already 1n2d trips created by travel agencies to the same planetarium that the 6 men visited. I love planetariums. It was one of my favorite class trips as a child.

And here we are at the main event. The bedtime bok-bul-bok with the managers! They continue with the OB/YB theme but with the managers included. They start out with a little introduction of each manager. Except MCM’s manager Lee Hoon Suk’s intro is edited out… sad!

MCM: Young Jin, smile a little. Does Ho Dong hyung hit you?
LSGi: Hyung, can you say something to make him more comfortable?
MCM: Just pretend to be close. Just pretend.
KHD: Even though the manager is supposed to make the celebrity look good, I actually am quite friendly with my manager Young Jin. We’re comfortable with each other, and even play jokes on each other. [To manager] Please put your arm around me.
A staff person is surprised and shouts “omo” from the back. LOL.
KHD: Please take your hand off now.
EJW: If he had been a little late, his arm would have been ripped off.

KHD: What kind of a person is Lee Seung Gi’s manager? Tell us about his character.
LSGi: My manager, team leader Park Dong Jin, tends to take a prominent position in whatever he does.
MCM: He even had the first known manager scandal.
EJW: That’s right, that’s right!
MCM: With KHD’s stylist.
KHD: Unfortunately, their love didn’t last and ended in the middle, which led my stylist’s desire to quit.
MCM: Oppa, I’m sorry. It’s not because I don’t like you, just that I’m a little uncomfortable…

KHD: Eun Ji Won, tell us about your manager.
EJW: My manager is the same as me, and he’s quite charismatic. And the first time he met me, he said this, “You want to stuff your face with this sandwich?” So more than any other schedule, going places with him was the most difficult.

KHD: Kim C, how about your manager?
KC: His name is Park Kwang Chul. And besides his name and phone number, I know nothing about him.
LOL

KHD: How about Lee Su Geun?
LSGn: He’s famous. His real name is Kim Dae Won, and he’s a quiet one. But he said one thing to me. “Hyung, I want to drive a van.” [The kind that singers ride.] We may be riding a sedan right now, but let’s try to aim high.

Now onto the game… The teams are pitted against each other in a series of games. They are given a point for each win and first to 3 points will win it all. In their first game, they are given a category (i.e. superhero whose name ends in man) and all 6 need to answer in succession to win. The YB team takes the first 2 and Ho Dong wants the next round to be for 3 points. PD Na suggests that they play for 3 points but to raise the winning total points to 10.

They agree to the new rules. The YB team ends up winning the third round and goes up 5-0. The next game is telephone charades. (AHHH!!! The original telephone charades using Korean idioms and MCM going crazy is my FAVORITE scene of 1n2d!!) But this time, they will be using movie titles. The YB team, trying to figure out the placement, says that LSGi’s manager watches a lot of movies. But he replies, “I only watch racy ones,” making everyone erupt with laughter. Manager and actor stand side by side as partners sharing in the same hobby. Hahaha!

The scenes are fairly self-explanatory and oh so hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time I was watching. I’m sure most of you were probably able to guess many of them. I’m curious to see how many of the non-Korean speakers got them right by watching the men perform, without the aid of the answers. Below are the list of the movie titles and the ones they got correct is in bold.

Round 1

YB: Gone with the Wind, The Host, Terminator, Haeundae

MC Mong as usual starts out with gusto, but the middle members (Ji Won, Lee Hoon Suk, and Park Dong Jin) are a bit suspect. Lee Seung Gi’s manager is especially oblivious and makes up his own weird body movements, like putting his hand on forehead instead of the thumbs up sign for Terminator. Fortunately, LSGi seems to know his manager’s movements and is able to guess 2 movies correctly.

OB: Matrix, Ghost, Jurassic Park, Basic Instinct

MC Mong may have a special affinity for charades but Su Geun is no chump and holds his own. Matrix is pretty much a given, but his next 3 movies are short of spectacular. Unfortunately, they are a bit flamboyant and the managers have a bit of difficulty following suit. I love that he took his shirt off to do Sharon Stone’s leg crossing scene.

Round 2

YB: The Good, the Bad, and the Weird, Bodyguard, Dances with Wolves

Seeing Su Geun turn up the heat, MC Mong brings his A game to the next round. His “good, bad, and weird” are hilarious. Although his good looks quite similar to his weird… Unfortunately, LSGi mixes the order of the 3 and they end up getting it incorrect. To explain Bodyguard, MCM basically shoots a movie with a Whitney Houston scene and a perfectly done Kevin Costner imitation. His manager Hoon Suk takes it one step further with a well placed jump for protection. For the last movie, they all put in their own dance moves. And LSGi’s manager takes the cake with his swing move.

OB: Lord of the Ring, Rambo, Madam Aema

They get through the first 2 pretty easily, with LSGn doing a rendition of Gollum. The last movie is a Korean movie about an erotic housewife in the spirit of Nine 1/2 Weeks, which allows for the men to demonstrate their best come hither look. Su Geun’s manager, Kim Dae Won wins the cake by adding in female grunts to his act.

Ultimately, the OB takes the game and wins 3 points to trail 3-5.

They finish up the bok-bul-bok with a 1n2d classic, the multiplication table. After each take a win, they decide to go all in on the next round, with the winner sleeping indoors. The YB team goes first and is able to get 7 consecutive correct answers. The OB team gets ready and steps up to the plate. The usually even keeled Kim C gets the first questions wrong, and the YB team takes the game and the privilege of sleeping inside.

To commemorate their win, the seob-seob brothers decide to create their own cheer. They try out a 2PM version with Russian folk dance thrown in, and a 2PM Rockettes version without much luck, and decide to go the Seotaji (Come Back Home) route.  It’s a little awkward in the beginning but they end up with a successful routine.

Outside in the OB tent, they continue the multiplication game for forehead flicks.

The next morning, YBs are awake and ready to go on their morning mission. The OBs are a bit less prepared and head to the bathroom just as the wake up song plays. The YBs easily complete the mission and enjoy breakfast.

Before ending the shoot, the YBs try to show off their seob-seob cheer. But Ho Dong, who had watched them practice, swoops in and tries to steal their thunder by performing a similar routine. The YBs, who practiced throughout the evening, finally get to show off their Seotaji inspired routine.

Another end to a fun episode. To finish off, here are the photos from the last montage with the managers. They were all so sweet in their comments, mostly praising the celebrities for the hard work that they do. It looks like a lot of fun when watching, but it’s a difficult task to entertain millions.

Kang Ho Dong and Jung Young Jin

Eun Ji Won and Kang Young Hyun

Lee Su Geun and Kim Dae Won

Lee Seung Gi and Park Dong Jin

Kim C and Park Kwang Chul

MC Mong and Lee Hoon Suk

Thanks so much for your recap! I watch the episodes unsubbed first, since KBS World sometimes cuts some scenes. Your recaps help me understand the nuances of the show, since I do not understand Korean. I agree, though, that the charades are always fun. If pictures are worth a thousand words, these gestures are practically worth a million. 🙂

I am kind of confused, though. Isn’t Mong’s manager called Heon Suk, not Hoon Chul?

Haha.. you’re right not sure why I got his name wrong…. It’s actually Hoon Suk!

I still can’t believe Jiwon’s manager said that to him on the first meeting, lols. I wonder what Jiwon’s reaction was like.

Thanks for the recap! It was a lot of fun reading it!

^^I think Kim C said he just changed a manager, right? That’s why at the moment, he knew so little about his manager. His old manager was the one who had a scandal with Jiwon’s stylist, wasn’t it??
